The first step in adopting a dog with NOBR is completing our online adoption application. Once received, our Adoptions Team will contact you to discuss dogs who match your preferences and needs. We’ll guide you through meet-and-greets, the home visit, the trial adoption, and adoption finalization to ensure a successful match! For more detail, please see our Adoption Process section.
NOBR is an all-breed dog rescue, though we prioritize the rescue of English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, American Bullies, and other bulldog and bully breeds. We usually have a wide range of dogs available for adoption, from puppies to seniors, from Frenchies to pit bulls, from running partners to couch potatoes, and from those in perfect health to those with special needs. We're proud to rescue dogs who are traditionally overlooked in shelter settings. Availability changes often, so check our Adoptable Dogs page or follow us on social media for updates.
Adoption fees are established based on an individual dog’s age, health, and breed. Younger, healthier, Bulldog breed dogs will have higher adoption fees.
The adoption fee covers essential veterinary care, spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations and heartworm prevention, microchipping and microchip services, and any veterinary procedures required at the time of adoption, such as surgeries or heartworm treatment.
Typical Adoption Fees by Breed
$150: most pitbull-type breeds
$300: American Bulldogs, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Boston Terriers, and some Bulldog mixes
$500-$800: Olde English Bulldogs, English Bulldogs
$800-$1500: Young English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, "exotic" Bulldogs
NOBR is a completely volunteer-run nonprofit, driven fully by our love for dogs. 100% of adoption fees are used to offset a small fraction of our veterinary bills, which regularly include $1,000 heartworm treatments, $1,200-$4,000 surgeries, among other expenses.
Therefore, the adoption fee does not just pay for the dog you adopt, but is also an impactful donation that funds the rescue of more dogs!
Our Bulldog adoption fees are standard for Bulldog-specific rescues across the US, due to the additional veterinary costs of rescuing and rehabilitating these breeds. That said, it's important to us that the adoption fee should not stand in the way of anyone adopting a new best friend. Therefore, we always have wonderful mixed-breed dogs and pitbull-type dogs who have much lower adoption fees, but have an equal amount of love to give.
The fee includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and a thorough veterinary exam. Dogs needing specialized care at the time of intake or prior to adoption (such as heartworm treatment or surgery) receive that before adoption, ensuring they’re ready for a healthy new start.
As a small volunteer-run nonprofit, adopting with us is not as fast adopting with your local shelter. However, we will take the time to ensure a successful match and smooth transition. The duration varies, but may take from as little as one week and up-to one month.
Our adoption radius is within 2-hour of the New Orleans area. This includes parts of southern Mississippi and southwest Alabama. Occasionally we will extend our adoption radius for dogs who haven't found their perfect home closer to New Orleans. We require that adopters travel to New Orleans to meet the dog they’re interested in prior to adoption.
