Adoption Fees

Your adoption fee is guaranteed to cover the cost of a microchip, a leash and harness, spaying or neutering the dog, ensuring the dog is up-to-date on all vaccinations at the time of adoption, ensuring the dog is up-to-date on flea and heartworm prevention at the time of adoption, and providing all medical care required at the time of adoption.

Owning any dog, but a bulldog in particular, is an expensive but fulfilling commitment. The breed is prone to various health problems that might require specialized medical care. The expression “the cheapest part of owning a bulldog is getting one”, is very true. All applicants should be prepared for the financial commitment involved in caring for their bulldog for the remainder of the dog's lifetime. This means quality food, regular medical check-ups, skin-care, necessary medical procedures, etc.

Our adoption fees are determined based on an adoptable dog's (1) breed, (2) age, and (3) health. Adoption fees are set to offset a small fraction of our veterinary expenses, which are considerable. These expenses commonly include $1,000 heartworm treatments (common for dogs in Louisiana who spend time outside without preventative medication), as well as skin, eye, stomach, and ear infections ($200-$800), mange ($600), orthopedic surgeries and related treatments ($1200-$4000), and the ongoing cost of food, boarding, flea and heartworm prevention, standard veterinary care, etc. Thankfully, most dogs can recover from these conditions with proper care, but that typically has to happen prior to adoption.

Typical Adoption Fees by Breed
  • $150: most Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixed breeds

  • $300: American Bulldogs, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Boston Terriers, and some Bulldog mixed breeds

  • $500: Adult English Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogs

  • $800-$1500: Young English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, "exotic" French or English Bulldogs

The adoption fee may be more or less than the breed-based fee, depending on the adoptable dog's health status and age. Younger, healthier dogs will have higher adoption fees. All adoption fees go completely towards paying-down veterinary expenses. NOBR is a 100% volunteer-run organization, driven by fully by our love for dogs.
