Our Adoption Process

1 | Adoption Application and/or Adoption Event

The first step is to either fill-out an adoption application or to attend one of our monthly adoption events.

The monthly adoption events are an opportunity to meet all of our currently adoptable dogs. You're welcome to attend an adoption event even if you haven't filled out an application. (NOTE: We have temporarily paused our monthly adoption events. Instead, we'll be setting up private meet-and-greets between adoptable dogs and interested adopters who appear to be a good match, described below in Step 3.)

The adoption application can be submitted with our without a specific dog named. If you don't have a particular dog in mind, an adoption coordinator will help you find your best match. The adoption application will help us identify which adoptable dogs are the best options for your home.

2 | Application Pre-Approval

Our adoption coordinator will screen your application to determine if all necessary information was provided. If not, you will be contacted to either fill-out another application or provide additional information.

Next, an adoption coordinator will contact your reference veterinarian for a recommendation.

3 | Initial Call

After we've collected all of your application information and contacted your veterinarian for a recommendation, we will set-up an initial phone call of about 20-minutes. If you've specified the dog you're interested in, this will be an opportunity for both you and our adoption coordinator to determine whether they're the right match. If you haven't specified a dog, this will be an opportunity for our adoption coordinator to get a better sense of which of our currently adoptable dogs should be considered. If none of our currently adoptable dogs are the right match, we will continue considering every new intake and continue the adoption process once we've found your perfect fit.

4 | Private Meeting

If you haven't met the selected dog yet, you should first meet them at the monthly adoption event. (This requirement has been temporarily suspended.)

Once a dog has been selected for adoption consideration and introduced at an adoption event, we will set up a private meeting. If you have other dogs, we will introduce them at a neutral location. This meeting will also allow you more time to ask questions about the adoption and transition process.

5 | Finish Application Approval

At this point, if you've fallen in love and are set on adopting the selected dog, we will finish approving the adoption application by contacting your personal references.

6 | Adoption Trial Period

Finally, an adoption coordinator will bring the dog to your home to do a home-check. This is to ensure the home is a normal, safe, and healthy environment. If the home passes this very basic standard, the selected dog will be left at the home for an adoption trial period. This is the time for you to ensure he/she is a good fit for your home. Potential adopters should be prepared to work through any issues during this period with our help.

At the time of adoption, NOBR will do everything possible to set up both you and your new dog for success. Our experienced canine behavior specialists will provide you with a transition plan based on your dog’s need, and provide supervision for introduction to other animals.

7| Adoption!

Woohoo! This is our favorite part of the adoption process!

Ongoing

New Orleans Bulldog Rescue is committed to the health and well-being of every dog we place for the remainder of that dog’s life. Should the adoption not work out, or you need to re-home the dog, we require, by contract, that the dog be returned to us.

Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can make appropriate arrangements for the dog.
